French and English as teaching languages
The language policy in the AEFE network promotes dialogue between cultures, linguistic diversity, respect for identities and differences for a way of living together.
Two-thirds of instruction is in French, and one-third in English. The bilingualism of the pupils being an objective for each end of schooling, the courses are adapted to an international audience, with a specific monitoring system in each class (see in particular the section on FFL below).

The EMILE system
This device aims to allow the acquisition of French and English languages to students from various linguistic backgrounds.
Through daily practice, students develop language skills that allow them to integrate into their living environment, but also to learn and think in several languages.
This undeniable asset for their future commits EFIC to offering a quality system, based on the individual capacities of children so that they progress at their own pace, with confidence and in a spirit of openness to the world around them.
In order to validate their level of English acquired at the French International School of Colombo, our students, from CE1, are offered to take the Cambridge University certification exams.
From a general point of view, students will study certain areas in both languages. The distributions are either annual or quarterly, depending on the areas of learning.
Projects involving both languages are set up throughout the year: teaching of the arts, sport, science, reading / writing projects, science day, shows, etc.

The FLE:
French as Foreign Language
The Français Langue Etrangère (FLE) / Français Langue de Scolarisation (FLSco) system has been set up to accommodate children with little or no French speaking at the French school in Colombo. It is aimed primarily at students who have little or no command of French, but also at those who are still learning the language and who therefore need to consolidate their knowledge.
This teaching allows students to access the fundamental learning required at school. Learning takes place in small groups, with an emphasis on oral language and thus allowing students to approach French with confidence.
This programme is adapted to the specific needs and profile of the child. After an analysis of the child’s level of French, he is placed in a small group, in order to facilitate learning and speaking. The lessons are individualized and adapted to the course of each child, in connection with the class and the reference teacher.
Thus, the teaching of FLE / FLSco is intensive and daily for beginners, and is exercised as needed at a more advanced level. Teaching hours are reduced throughout the school year.
