Over 40 years of excellence!
The French international school of Colombo (EFIC) is a French establishment of excellence, created in 1979. It therefore celebrated 45 years of existence.
Located in the heart of the capital, Colombo, the school currently welcomes around 80 students from nursery to final year, from more than 10 different nationalities, half of whom are French.
Teaching is done in French and English. Students also take Sinhala awakening lessons and from middle school they can choose other foreign languages.
Our school, due to its history and the tradition of opening French establishments, is a place of linguistic and cultural encounters and exchanges.
EFIC welcomes students of all nationalities, from kindergarten to 12th grade.
EFIC offers quality education in a reassuring environment conducive to child development for all families, expatriates or long-established in the country. It also welcomes students from Sri Lankan families.
The school is managed by a private-law association, the EFIC Parents’ Association, and signed an administrative, financial and educational agreement with the AEFE in 2016. This agreement covers, among other things, the assignment and remuneration of permanent national education staff and the allocation of subsidies. Like 50 other establishments in the Asia-Pacific region, these establishments maintain an ongoing management dialogue with the AEFE.

Dear students and dear parents,
The year 2023-2024 has ended, we will very quickly start a new school year.
First, let’s take stock of the past year. So many things to say!
First of all, we are very proud to have obtained the EFE3D level 1 label for our school, which rewards foreign educational establishments committed to preserving the environment and sustainable development. Note in particular the second place, for the Asia-Pacific region, of our secondary students who created a solar oven as part of the scientific project X for education for sustainable development.
But this year is also that of the Olympic Games in France. Our school had to pay a special tribute to sport and its values. First of all, our students were introduced to water sports during a school trip to Weligama where they also experienced community life in a fraternal atmosphere. But the notable event was the organization of a sporting event between our school and the Daybridge International School in the presence.In addition to the French ambassador, the president of the Sri Lankan National Olympic Committee and internationally renowned athletes ike Susanthika Jayasinghe, silver medalist at the Sydney Olympics, or Rajeev Rajapakse, high-level tennis player.
And then, this past year was a good year for our school, since enrollment increased very significantly and registrations for the start of the September school year were up 36% compared to last year. We are happy to welcome more and more Sri Lankan students to our school, from kindergarten onwards.
EFIC, through the excellence of its teaching, is increasingly renowned in Colombo. It is the result of the work of an entire team that should be congratulated. But it is also the consequence of the renewed confidence of the parents of students who know what they will find for their children, within our establishment, not only the academic quality that they demand, but also a secure framework allowing student development.
The coming year will be important since a new school project must be drawn up for the period 2025-2028. The entire school community will be mobilized to define the future priorities of the EFIC, identify the objectives to be achieved and the actions to be implemented. This is therefore a new challenge for our school, one that we will all take on together to guarantee both a peaceful future for the establishment and the success of all our students.
