Over 40 years of excellence!
The French international school of Colombo (EFIC) is a French establishment of excellence, created in 1979. It therefore celebrated 45 years of existence.
Located in the heart of the capital, Colombo, the school currently welcomes around 80 students from nursery to final year, from more than 10 different nationalities, half of whom are French.
Teaching is done in French and English. Students also take Sinhala awakening lessons and from middle school they can choose other foreign languages.
Our school, due to its history and the tradition of opening French establishments, is a place of linguistic and cultural encounters and exchanges.
EFIC welcomes students of all nationalities, from kindergarten to 12th grade.
EFIC offers quality education in a reassuring environment conducive to child development for all families, expatriates or long-established in the country. It also welcomes students from Sri Lankan families.

Réguina Trézeux, Principal of EFIC
Dear students and parents,
One school year has ended, another is beginning, and under auspicious circumstances!
The 2024-2025 school year has been particularly eventful for our school. Firstly, we finalised our new school project for the period 2025-2029. This project is our roadmap for the next four years. It sets out all the educational and other objectives to be achieved and lists the actions to be taken to achieve them. It is important that the whole school community, teachers, staff, parents and pupils take ownership of this project and make it their own.
This project now defines our school, which is characterised not only by its excellent academic results but also by its desire to welcome its pupils into an environment that is conducive to learning and personal development. It is these results and this commitment that have made EFIC a leading school in Colombo today, with families from all backgrounds rushing to enroll their children: enrolment this year exceeds 100 pupils, an increase of nearly 20% (after a 36% increase last year), and demand continues to grow.
Among our school’s notable achievements last year, we must first mention the confirmation of the EFE3D label (French school abroad committed to sustainable development) at level 1. We hope to reach level 2 next year, which will mark our determined commitment to making our school ever more environmentally friendly and to raising our pupils’ awareness of sustainable development issues.
We are also very proud to have been finalists for the teaching awards, which recognise ‘schools that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in a number of areas relating to education and culture’. EFIC competed in the commitment category. The French Ambassador himself officially presented us with the document on behalf of the AEFE.
Another success was our primary school being awarded the International English Language Section label. This label officially recognizes the fact that English has a special place at EFIC, with extra hours devoted to teaching the language itself and teaching various subjects in English. This prestigious label should reinforce the reputation for excellence and international character of our school in Colombo.
In addition, we are opening a Year 7 class at the start of this school year. Until now, our secondary school pupils had to follow CNED courses. Year 7 pupils will now have their own class and receive direct teaching from teachers appointed by the French Ministry of Education. We hope that this will enable us to obtain official accreditation from the Ministry for the Year 7 class, as is currently the case for the nursery and primary school.
Last but not least, another innovation is the upcoming opening of a second EFIC site located on Park Road, very close to our current site. This site will initially be used to accommodate our secondary school pupils. It will open next January. In the coming years, it will enable us to better accommodate new pupils who wish to enroll at EFIC in the best possible conditions.
Our school is indeed on an upward trajectory. It grows a little more each year. This growth is the result of the remarkable work of the team that brings it to life, teachers and other staff whom I would like to thank here in particular. It is also due to the commitment of the Parents’ Association, and in particular the management committee and the school council, whose volunteer members are dedicated to the success of our pupils and our school. Because EFIC belongs first and foremost to the families who send their children here and who have shown increasing commitment to the school.
That is why I would like to wish the entire school community, old and new members alike, every success for the start of the 2025 school year!
