Position Title: Accounting Assistant
Workplace: EFIC, 120 Park Road
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Compensation: According to salary scale / to be specified
Reporting Line: Reports to the Administrative and Financial Director (DAF)
Purpose of the Role
The Accounting Assistant supports the Administrative and Financial Director (DAF) in maintaining accurate financial records and preparing accounting and financial documents. The role involves close collaboration with the Administrative Secretary to ensure smooth financial and administrative operations of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Treasury
- Record daily cash movements in Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) and Euros (EUR) for bank accounts (debits and credits).
- Request missing information directly from the bank when required.
- Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
- Record daily petty cash transactions in LKR and EUR, maintain the cash journal, and conduct weekly cash inventories.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Manage supplier accounting: record invoices, fixed assets, and general expenses; prepare payments and transfer orders; reconcile supplier accounts monthly.
- Manage customer accounting: issue, send, and record invoices; register payments; follow up on outstanding payments; reconcile customer accounts monthly.
Expense and Administrative Support
- Enter, verify, and post employee expense claims.
- Assist in managing student enrollment files in coordination with the Administrative Secretary.
Required Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills
- Solid knowledge of general accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (xero)and Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets).
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken); French is an advantage.
Organizational Skills
- Strong sense of rigor, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines effectively.
- Autonomy in daily work.
Interpersonal Skills
- Professional communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to respond effectively to families, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Respect for confidentiality and discretion.
